Youth Icons Ghana strongly believes that peace remains the single most important investment Ghana and for that matter Africa needs to make to drive its development.
We appreciate the fact that capital and investment have choice. No investor apart from those who benefit from war economics would invest their hard earned monies in conflict prone nations or in war zones. As leaders of tommorrow, we therefore believe that the peace architecture of Ghana and other african nations must be secured, jealously guarded and consolidated to make the continent an attractive and important investment destination on planet earth.
For us at Youth Icons we equate the important of peace to the air we breathe and this has informed our different projects on peace to help build a culture of peace and nonviolence in Ghana. We are stopping at nothing to engage the civic space and to drive home the critical point that ghana's peace is a collective responsibility.
Our ultimate goal is to help build a nation, continent and a world where peace reigns supreme.
The year 2012 was yet another election year after 2008. As vanguards of the peace of Ghana, we lived our promise by again setting in motion another grand peace and nonviolence education campaign dubbed Ghana Peace Campaign 2012 under the theme “Peace now, everybody’s business”. This was a clarion call on all Ghanaians by Youth Icons Ghana as a major actor.
This time the youth of Ghana provided leadership to various sectors of the Ghanaian society including women groups, traditional authorities, school children as well as politicians and the clergy to collaborate to protect Ghana’s peace before, during and after the elections. Again Youth Icons Ghana honed its creativity and became one of few organizations who have tried to rally one million people to march for a cause mimicking Dr Martin Luther king’s March on Washington where it was estimated that a million people marched that day.
As part of global efforts to celebrate 2012’s world peace day which falls on 21 September every year, Youth Icons Ghana launched the Million People March for Peace walk to endorse the peace of Ghana. Although one million people did not come out to march, a mass hysteria was created in Accra when the sitting Vice President of Ghana and other political heavy weights from various political parties, women groups, students, and labour unions turned up in their thousands to march. The huge success of Ghana Peace Campaign 2012 yet again endorsed the peace of Ghana. Ghana can always count on us to deliver in 2016.
